GATE 17 is the entrance to the wrap around section where the upper tier of the Matthew Harding Stand meets the East Stand. When Stamford Bridge was redeveloped in into an all-seater stadium under the governance of Ken Bates, many supporters found themselves seated away from the friends that they'd grown up watching Chelsea with. The North East Infill Area, as GATE 17 was originally referred to by the Club, was completed in the summer of 2001. Here on a match-day, you'll find Blues historian Rick Glanvill, author Mark Worrall, David 'Stamford' Chidgey producer of the legendary Chelsea Football Fancast ... and a whole cast of fabled characters including Seagull, Roper, Spiteful Simon, Sir Larry, Alright Pav, Ginger Terry, Big Chris and the Lantern Jawed Salisbury Rog. With Steve 'the steward' Seymour regularly keeping good order it's one of the friendliest areas in the ground and also boasts a superb view of the matters at hand on the pitch.
